Led by ITAR’s director, this research was conducted by the project director in 2020 for the NGO “EuroMed Feminist Initiative”. It was financed by the European Trust Fund “MADAD” in the Middle East. As the Syrian crisis entered its tenth year, the objective of this study was to analyse the degree of inclusion of gender issues in the international crisis mechanism in Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq: the 3RP.
The report analyses how UN agencies, governments, NGOs and other civil society actors have integrated gender and gender equality issues into (a) their strategy, and (b) the implementation of their projects responding to the Syrian crisis. This analysis was done systematically for key sectors of the response in all of the three countries.
The study draws on a total of 72 interviews with key high-level actors across the region and a representative survey with Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian and Iraqi women, end-beneficiaries of MADAD-funded NGOs in the three countries.
The research resulted in a set of four reports: a regional comparative analysis, as well as three country analyses taking into account local situations and legal frameworks. These can be accessed on the EFI website. The Jordan specific analysis included a detailed review of both education and livelihoods.
